Hair Care Guide: Bomb-Mane

The Ultimate Bomb-Mane Hair Care & Longevity Guide

Luxury hair extensions are an investment. Because extension hair does not receive natural oils from the scalp, proper home care and salon maintenance are essential to keep wefts silky, tangle-free, and full-bodied for 9 to 12+ months.

Daily Brushing Routine

  • Use the Right Brush: Only use a dedicated extension loop brush or a soft 100% boar-bristle brush to avoid snagging beads, wefts, or bonds.

  • Hold the Root: Always hold the base of the hair/seam with one hand to support the attachment point while gently detangling with the other.

  • Start from the Bottom: Work out tangles starting at the ends, gradually moving upward toward the scalp 2–3 times daily, especially before washing and before bed.

Washing & Conditioning

  • Sulfate & Paraben-Free Only: Use salon-grade, moisturizing, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Avoid proteins or heavy keratin-rebuilding formulas that can dry out extension hair over time.

  • Wash Method: Wash hair in a downward motion in the shower. Never flip hair upside down over a sink or scrub vigorously at the roots.

  • Conditioning Placement: Apply rich conditioner and hydrating masks from mid-lengths to ends only. Keep oils, silicones, and conditioners away from the weft seam or bead foundation to prevent slippage.

  • Frequency: Wash 1–2 times per week. Use a salon-grade dry shampoo at the roots between wash days to absorb excess oil without stripping the hair.

Drying & Heat Styling

  • Never Sleep on Wet Hair: Going to bed with damp hair will cause severe matting and weaken the weft foundation. Always ensure the attachment points and roots are 100% dry before sleeping.

  • Towel Dry Gently: Squeeze excess moisture out with a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt—never rub aggressively.

  • Blow Drying: Rough-dry roots and weft bases on medium heat, then use a round brush on mid-lengths to ends to smooth the cuticle.

  • Heat Protection: Always apply a professional thermal protectant spray before using flat irons, curling wands, or hot tools. Keep direct heat (flat irons/curlers) off the seam, tape tabs, or keratin bonds.

  • Temperature Setting: Keep hot tools at or below 350°F (180°C) to protect the hair’s natural moisture barrier and tone.

Nightly Sleep Protection

  • Secure Before Sleep: Never sleep with hair loose. Braid hair into one or two loose, low braids or gather into a gentle low ponytail with a silk scrunchie.

  • Silk or Satin Pillowcase: Sleep on a 100% silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction, eliminate morning frizz, and prevent mechanical breakage.

Sun, Swimming & Travel Protection

  • Avoid Mineral Sunscreen (Avobenzone): Sunscreens containing Avobenzone will chemically react with lightened extension hair and turn it peachy-orange or pink. Use 100% mineral/zinc-based sunscreens when wearing extensions.

  • Chlorine & Saltwater: Ocean salt and pool chlorine strip moisture and cause discoloration. Before swimming, wet hair thoroughly with fresh water, apply a leave-in conditioner or mask, and secure it in a high bun. Rinse and shampoo immediately after exiting the water.

  • Hard Water: If living in or traveling to an area with hard water, use a shower filter to prevent mineral buildup and brassiness.

Salon Maintenance Schedule

  • Move-Ups & Re-Installs: Schedule maintenance appointments every 6 to 8 weeks with a certified pro to prevent natural shed hair from tangling around the beads and to keep natural hair healthy.
